K-pop idols thrive on building a steady, dedicated fan base. This is most often accomplished by a constant stream of releases and deluge of content. But within the vast K-pop industry, there are more than a few "one hit wonders" – acts who release one single or album and are scarcely heard from again. It's time to look back at some of these unknown treasures and give them the attention they deserve.
Judging strictly by their number of releases, NewUs don't quite fit the "one hit wonder" label, but as far as I can tell Love Panic was the only track actively promoted on music shows. Right Now and Get Away each seem to have come and go with little to no fanfare. In my mind, Love Panic (러브패닉) is the groups one "hit that got away" and represents some the best sounds coming out of K-pop in 2013.
This song's opening has always reminded me of Infinite's debut Come Back Again. That raucous, punky guitar riff injects energy into the track right from the start, framing propulsive verses that keep the intensity high. From here, the song segues into an anthemic chorus and rhythmic post-chorus, continuing to build upon the energy the verses laid out. And at about four minutes in length, there's plenty of time to revel in the song's jagged charms. Interestingly, two of the members went on to join N.Tic -- another boy group who could very well appear in this feature with their excellent 2018 track Do You Know Who I Am.
