The news in the world has been heavy to say the least. I know it's weighed on me this last week. One of my favorite escapes has been music, so I keep chugging along trying to share new tunes that can hopefully bring everyone a bit of respite from the rest of the universe that we can't control. Here's hoping some of the great new albums and songs that came out this week can be one escape from you.
And this week's albums are a solid collection. We have the long-awaited return of Los Campesinos!, Glass Animals' latest after their break-through album, a cool soundtrack-accompaniment from Childish Gambino to go with Donald Glover's new project, a great new album from alternative hip-hop artist Skizzy Mars, and some folksy goodness from Dr. Dog.
One single I'm especially excited about this week is the latest from Japandroids, who announced their new (and final) album coming this year. Another cool return is Save Ferris, with their first new, non-holiday song from their next album (and I'm seeing the band tonight opening for Goldfinger)! Speaking of Goldfinger, they've collaborated with Less Than Jake on a cover of the hit Post Malone/MORGAN WALLEN single. Kim Deal has dropped her first solo song in many years, and young punks The Linda Lindas announced their new album with a new song.
We've got more new tunes from legends like Nick Lowe, great songwriters like Bob Schneider, Shovels & Rope and Sam Barber, upstarts like Rat Boy, Royel Otis and Fidlar, and the parody master Weird Al Yankovic. James Bay has got two heavyweight features on his new single: The Lumineers and Noah Kahan. Minneapolis alt rock heroes Soul Asylum are back with a new banger, and Drug Church go hard as always with their latest. Other artists returning with solid new tunes are Laura Jane Grace, Armor for Sleep, Eric Sleeper, Rex Orange County, Coastal Club, Drug Church, Hilary Cousins, Savanna Leigh, Hotel Mira, The Helltones, Joy Oladokun, Billy Raffoul, Jeffrey Foucault, Militarie Gun, Barns Courtney, Sammy Kay, Pony Pradshaw, Riverside Drive (who's song we premiered yesterday), Them Dirty Roses, Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures, Kaleo, Carter Vail, Littrell, Hippo Campus, Highly Suspect, Dexter and the Moonrocks, Eliza & the Delusionals, and Jukebox the Ghost.
And joining us for the first time this week are Zach Templar, Naked Giants, Lyons & Co, Lea Thomas, The Singer and the Songwriter, Tauk, Theo Moss, Sparxsea, Angel White, JC Miller, The Low Sixes, JJ Wilde, Pa Sheehy, A.D.A.M. Music Project, blondestandard, John Vincent III and Chapell.
