When you find yourself immersed in the density of the metal underground, it doesn't take much in the current landscape to eventually branch out. Whether you're still in the same sonic neighborhood or challenging yourself to trying a completely fresh style, we've seen throngs of musicians make that very transition with grace and aptitude. With a foot already firmly in the insanity of black metal, the guitarist of Noise Trail Immersion sought to accomplish just such a transition with the debut album of Occulta Veritas nothing to underestimate.
Dealing in the same general genre but finessing between styles can be a somewhat straightforward concept that can certainly be quite challenging for some people with plenty not able to get a proper grasp on the nuances from one sonic territory to the next. However, a select few, like Daniele Vergine, is able to make that leap with all the competency that one could ask for when taking that very dive. A far harsher approach but nevertheless still an introspective view into the darkness within and without the human soul, it's every given inch of "Irreducible Fear of the Sublime" that Occulta Veritas's entrance is one that is not to be denied. Simultaneously subtle and on the nose in many given instances without one compromising the intensity that Vergine has demonstrated elsewhere, the six tracks of "Irreducible Fear of the Sublime" are fascinating to gaze into as they take on the very properties of the abyss from which they take great influence from with all the power, rugged melodies, and scathing songwriting that feels like a dark light guiding us deeper into the infinite darkness rather than out of it with all the magnitude to match.
A particularly diabolical blend that takes into account the most aggressive form of atmospheric black metal that I've ever become lost in, Occulta Veritas has made a spectacle entry! Where there was much on the table in the way of unpredictable potential, it demands to be made clear that "Irreducible Fear of the Sublime" has capitalized on that at every given turn.
