You might know we're fans of Canada's Riverside Drive, based on our placement of their single "Whatever It Takes" as one of our Bangers of the Week a little over a year ago. I'm happy to report the band has a new EP set to drop on September 20th, and today, we're giving you the first taste of their new music with the premiere of the single "Worst Case Ontario".
About the track, frontman Josh Lowe has said:
""Worst Case Ontario" is about the frustration of pouring your time and energy into something and not getting to where you want to be, but you can't give it up because you care about it too much. Even as it becomes harder and more unsustainable, you keep going because there's something drawing you back into it, for better or worse.
The song is inspired by the countless artists who work their asses off for their dreams and face every possible obstacle along the way. It would be so much easier to give up, but any artist knows that quitting isn't an option. This song is about the people who are compelled by every fibre of their being to create and share their work with the world."
The track blasts off within the first few seconds with a soaring, celestial guitar riff. Lowe cries out "Is there anybody out there", and you're pulled into the search for connection. The rhythm section provides a perfectly bouncy beat to get everyone pogoing on the chorus, and the bridge builds to a hopeful catharsis, as Lowe proclaims "We're pushing forward".
Take a listen to the track here before it drops everywhere on July 19th!
