To celebrate the paperback release of The Beaver Theory by Antti Tuomainen(The Rabbit Factor 3), I'm delighted to reshare my book review with you today as part of the blog tour. Thank you as always to Anne Cater and Orenda Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this superb trilogy of books!
About the book:
Henri Koskinen, intrepid insurance mathematician and adventure-park entrepreneur, firmly believes in the power of common sense and order. That is until he moves in with painter Laura Helanto and her daughter…
As Henri realises he has inadvertently become part of a group of local dads, a competing adventure park is seeking to expand their operations, not always sticking to the law in the process…
Is it possible to combine the increasingly dangerous world of the adventure-park business with the unpredictability of life in a blended family? At first glance, the two appear to have only one thing in common: neither deals particularly well with a mounting body count.
In order to solve this seemingly impossible conundrum, Henri is forced to step far beyond the mathematical precision of his comfort zone … and the stakes have never been higher…
Warmly funny, quirky, touching, and a nail-biting triumph of a thriller, The Beaver Theory is the final instalment in the award-winning Rabbit Factor Trilogy, as Henri encounters the biggest challenge of his career, with hair-raising results…
Soon to be a major motion picture starring Steve Carell
About the author:
Finnish Antti Tuomainen was an award-winning copywriter when he made his literary debut in 2007 as a suspense author. The critically acclaimed My Brother's Keeper was published two years later. In 2011, Tuomainen's third novel, The Healer, was awarded the Clue Award for 'Best Finnish Crime Novel of 2011' and was shortlisted for the Glass Key Award. The Finnish press labelled The Healer – the story of a writer desperately searching for his missing wife in a post-apocalyptic Helsinki – 'unputdownable'. Two years later, in 2013, they crowned Tuomainen 'The King of Helsinki Noir' when Dark as My Heart was published.
With a piercing and evocative style, Tuomainen was one of the first to challenge the Scandinavian crime genre formula, and his poignant, dark and hilarious The Man Who Died became an international bestseller, shortlisting for the Petrona and Last Laugh Awards. Palm Beach Finland (2018) was an immense success, with The Times calling Tuomainen 'the funniest writer in Europe', and Little Siberia (2019) was shortlisted for the Capital Crime/Amazon Publishing Readers Awards, the Last Laugh Award and the CWA International Dagger, and won the Petrona Award for Best Scandinavian Crime Novel. The Rabbit Factor is the first book in Antti's first-ever series. The Rabbit Factor is also in development to become an Amazon Studios film starring Steve Carell.

My Review:
The Beaver Theory is the third and final book in the dark and hilarious trilogy that began with the incredible The Rabbit Factor. Written by critically acclaimed Finnish author Antti Tuomainen, this final book is every bit as unique and entertaining as the first two books in the series. Superbly translated as always by David Hacksten, this is a stunning trilogy that is unlike anything I have ever read before.
The Rabbit Factor is about to be adapted for the screen with the incredible Steve Carell starring as Henri, so I was eager to see how Antti Tuomainen would end the story of this quirky, funny and innately human character. Would it be possible for him to end the series in such a way that it would do justice to what had gone before? And I have to say he did just that! The Beaver Theory is the perfect book to end the series with and to say a final goodbye to Henri in.
In the first book, insurance mathematician Henri Koskinen believes he knows the answer to what makes life perfect. Until suddenly he doesn't and is faced with the incalculable after a series of unfortunate events. And then his brother dies and Henri inherits an adventure park, with all its employees and troubling financial problems included. As if that wasn't complicated enough, Henri then meets Laura, a happy-go-lucky artist with a chequered past… and his life was never the same again…
As we catch up with Henri in this final instalment we see him finally move in with Laura. But life as part of a blended family isn't easy and everything soon turns topsy turvy all over again. As warm and quirky as ever, in The Beaver TheoryHenri faces his biggest challenge so far, resulting in a heart pounding thriller that keeps you on your toes throughout.
I find myself falling more and more in love with Henri in every book. He's got a quirky personality and a mathematician's brain, but is so out of his depth it's hilarious. Like the previous two books, The Beaver Theory is a dark and deeply funny comedy with a warm and soft centre running through it that's innately human. It's dark to the extreme at times but is also deeply moving, with characters you can't help but care about, even when you know you probably shouldn't. A superbly written, darkly hilarious and emotional read, The Beaver Theory builds on what went before, taking the story – and Henri himself – to a whole new level. And I absolutely adored it! Antti Tuomainen's writing is top notch as he steers Henri's story towards its final exciting but moving conclusion .
The Beaver Theory is the perfect ending to what has been a unique and highly entertaining series that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. And I loved every single word of it!
The Beaver Theory by Antti Tuomainen is available to purchase in paperback from today:
