My plan was simple: move to this small town, open a vet clinic with my bestie, and save as many animals as I could. But then he walked in and ruined everything.
Ryder Carson.
The man who thinks he can boss me around the minute he has a whimpering dog in his arms.
I mean…he's not wrong.
If an animal is in pain, I'll do anything I can. But I draw the line at humans.
We clash in all the wrong ways, and most days, he makes me want to neuter him.
But then one night, he brings in two little rescues, and I'm too sick to treat them.
He steals my car keys, grabs me like I'm an abandoned kitten in need of a hug, and takes me home—unwillingly, I might add.
I call it a kidnapping.
He calls it a rescue.
He likes to do that, you see.
And now that he's 'rescued me', he's demanding payback.
One date.
A single date to see if the sparks between us can set us on fire.
Apparently, if I behave myself on this date, I can touch the very thing I face planted into the first day he appeared in my surgery cradling a sausage dog.
Don't judge me. If you saw him hugging that little wiener, you would've stumbled into his pants too—accidentally of course.
But now I have permission.
An open invitation to see if this handsome, broody alpha is actually hiding a puppy dog heart beneath all that dangerous bite…
My 5* Review:
Can't Touch This by Pepper Winters is a lighthearted romcom about Vesper Fairfax, a vet and Ryder Carson, a dirty talking dog lover and all round nice guy. It is full of silly jokes, crazy innuendoes, mad flirting and lots of banter. Be prepared for lots of wiener jokes and the amusing situations the couple find themselves in. A very entertaining and steamy tale.
"Hot dog? I'd say it's more like a giant salami…You can squeeze my salami if you want."
Vesper owns Tales of Tails with her best friend Polly Dartford. They met at university while training to be vets. Ryder is a client who annoys her intently because he never makes an appointment, he just turns up with dogs needing her help. She loves his compassionate ways with the dogs he rescues and knows he's devoted to them. Even though attracted to him, she sees him as off-limits as he one of their clients.
Ryder knows he annoyed her but he rescues dogs who constantly needs veterinary care. He had really liked her when they first met and was going to ask her out but she'd cooled and he had no idea why. She was fine with the dogs but ignored him so tried to keep it to a professional relationship but can't resist her any longer. He finds it so easy to wind her up with his sarcastic comments but is worried about his dogs so he apologises and in a funny and roundabout way manages to ask her out!

A love hate relationship which develops into much more. Their shared passion for animals develops into amorous feelings for each other. She does make him work but once she cant deny the chemistry they end up having a lot of fun. Ryder is adorable and turns out to have kinky side to his personality. He does have an obsession to help and fix things but he's also generous and thoughtful. He pushes her out of her comfort zone and offers her the chance to explore her fantasies. There is so much sexual tension between them that I knew they would exploded once they get the chance.
This is a pleasant and funny change from the author's usual dark romance. The empathy this couple have for the animals was lovely and so heart-warming. They turned out to be perfect for each other. A must read for any animal lovers because at times they steal the show and may have you reaching for your tissues.
