Blurb:
Cunning, lethal, and resilient were just a few words men have used to describe Anya Ivanov. While others would use words that are far worse. The head of questionable auctions just so happens to have the eye of a very ruthless businessman, River Bently.
River knew the moment he saw her, she was his. And he was more than patient to give her time to realize he was not going anywhere. Even if he was imposing on her territory, he was there to stay.
The only way to spend time with Anya is if you have the money to pay for her company.
He very much could.
He would pay her every last drop she demanded to be in the same room as the woman they are all afraid of. He does not see a woman who could cut him down to his knees. No, he sees a woman who he would gladly get on his knees for.
My 4* Review:
Cunning Vows is book three in the Lethal Vows series by T.L. Smith and Kia Carrington- Russell. This time we have an enemies to lovers dark romance between River Bentley and Anya Ivanov. This pair are as dangerous and deadly as each other. They are both running empires based on illegal activities. At the end of the last book there were rumours her twin brother Alek, was missing and at the start of this one she is desperately trying to find him.
Anya is furious Alek has just left without a word, totally vanished with no contact. They were brought up by a foster mother who moulded them into the merciless and cut-throat pair they now are. She is independent and all about control and power especially over men. She refuses to take orders from anyone and will never be owned by a man. She is looking after all their business dealings and a newcomer has caught her attention.
River is a ruthless businessman well known for running guns. He wants to expand his empire but has to gain the Ivanov's permission to deal in New York. When he arrived the siblings declined to discuss business with him so he had an interesting way of getting their attention. They retaliate by trying to kill him so he demands to meet Anya. He knows about her because he has had previous dealings with Alek but he's never seen her. He cleverly orchestrates the meeting to his advantage and the games between these two begin. He becomes obsessed the moment they meet and he's determined to make her his.
Even though he is striking and catches her attention, she hates how smug he is and refuses his advances, demanding he pays her for her time. He plays along until she pushes him too far and he informs her of the situation her brother has left her in. His men can't believe he is so taken by her and are shocked at all he does to encourage and persuade her to give him a chance. He admits very early on he's going to marry her but boy has he his hands full .
Their romance is a slow burn because she refuses to accept he wants her and not her business. She is cunning and stubborn but he is devious and patient, willing to win over his redheaded devil. She finds him a nuisance who won't go away and he wants to dominate and claim her. He loves the challenge especially when she is angry and shows her lethal side. I laughed at their names for each other and the battle as they both try to break each other.
The banter is none stop as they push each others buttons and he slowly works his way under her skin. Their relationship is explosive, volatile and their chemistry sets the pages alight just like her reaction to one of the many things he does to annoy her. She hates she wants him and is confused over what is happening as she starts to have feelings she can't explain. It doesn't help that she is missing Alek and feeling a little alone and frustrated running things on her own. I liked how he wanted to treat her as an equal and worship the woman she is. She is unapologetic about her behaviour and really gives him the run around.I laughed when she couldn't accept she was jealous and the exorbitant amounts he was willing to pay to win her over.
He makes her question her upbringing and everything she thought she wanted. The ending is full of suspense as lies are revealed and the truth is uncovered. I was pleased Anya had River on her side and their relationship was very entertaining throughout. We were left with the mystery of what is going on with Alek so I am looking forward to reading his story.
