Timothy Pike Many among us dream of being published—perhaps even popular and bestselling—authors.
What's not to like about this dream?
You get to be creative, invent stories, come up with characters, be known for doing something great, and ...
... best of all ...
... write all day long!!
But what are you doing to make this dream a reality?
Obviously, a novel isn't going to write itself. Or clear your calendar for you. Or make your life any less hectic.
These are common excuses for not getting started. Or for starting but not finishing.
For example:
"I'm not a good enough writer yet."
"I don't have the time to devote to writing at the moment."
"I can't think about writing because my life is so crazy these days.
Notice the "yet," "at the moment," and "these days."
Okay ...
So, if you're not working on your novel now, then ... when?
The time to do it really is right now , whether you feel ready or not.
What's the first step?
Maybe it's something super simple and quick like hiding away for 30 minutes to think of some ideas for your story.
Maybe it's thinking of a cool name for your protagonist.
Maybe it's opening your laptop and writing a few paragraphs. Don't overthink it, just let the words flow, even if it's terrible.
Maybe it's coming up with a quick backstory for a character.
Most importantly, don't overwhelm yourself! Just take it one small step at a time.
But do something right now, today .
Again:
What are you doing to make your dream a reality?
