After uniting on a band version of Gaho's Start Over in 2020, KAVE have transformed into an actual group with a proper debut. Fronted by Gaho, the band boasts an eclectic mix of producers that add a unique touch to Korea's K-rock scene. Legend acts as their first title track and delivers a mix of grit and polish.
If you didn't know this was a rock band, you might mistake Legend for a rock-tinged idol group track. The bounding percussion practically begs for a charismatic dance routine while the shouted chorus isn't too dissimilar from what groups like Stray Kids are delivering. This blurring of genres and expectations works in Legend's favor, helping KAVE stand out among other rock acts. I'm not doing backflips over any of the song's melodies, but I love the intensity and conviction with which they're delivered. From Gaho's gutsy vocals to the jagged textures of the guitar, KAVE really throw down here. I'm especially taken with the pre-chorus, which pulses with addictive rhythm and fierce charisma.
