The Haters – Robyn Harding

That new deck stain makes me so happy! Took 5 hours but it was SO worth it and it makes for a much prettier background.

Thank you Grand Central Publishing and Novel Suspects for the gifted copy in exchange for my honest review!

THE HATERS - Robyn Harding (Releasing July 2nd, 2024)

I absolutely love her books and you can find them all here and my reviews for them!

Book Description:

Camryn Lane is living her dream. After years of struggle and rejection, her first novel has finally been published. Her editor is happy; her teenage daughter is proud; and her boyfriend and friends are all excited for her. She's on top of the world—until she receives a disturbing message from an unknown sender.

Rattled by the accusations she finds there, Camryn swallows the sick feeling in her stomach and resolves to put the missive out of her mind. But when she checks her ratings on a popular book site, she finds a scathing one-star review. The reviewer is so articulate and convincing that soon, Camryn's book is flooded with bad reviews. Could the reviewer be the same person who sent the ugly email? And why do they want to ruin her?

As the online harassment creeps into Camryn's personal life, she vows to find out who's behind it. Is it really a disgruntled reader? Or could it be someone she knows? The troll's actions are escalating, and when the abuse turns deadly, it will take everything Camryn has to unmask the enemy so intent on destroying her—and finally learn why she's being targeted.

My Thoughts: 5/5 stars

Camryn Lane is on top of the world. After numerous rejections, her first novel is being published, and everyone in her life is ecstatic for her and her coming success. Moments before going on stage to do a live reading of her book, she receives a rather disturbing email from an unknown/generic email address. It could be anyone, and she wasn't going to let the wild accusations of a complete stranger rattle her before her big moment. Out of sight, out of mind, right?

Checking a popular book reviewing site to see how her book is doing, she notices a particular one-star review. It is so convincing and articulate and just full of vitriol that some are calling for a boycott of her book, and the flood of negative reviews comes in a fury. With the online harassment creeping into her everyday life, Camryn is desperate to find out who this person is and why they are attacking her like this. It can't just be an angry reader; this feels personal.

This almost feels like a cautionary tale. The way this feels almost entirely possibly is almost scarier than some horror books. The fact that anyone can find out so much about you just from your online presence is terrifying and the lengths someone will go to ruin you? Nope. Just all the nope and this book kept me so anxious. Who could she trust? Who could this mystery person be? You're in for a wild ride!
