For all intents and purposes, death-doom metal is in a state that is as varied and unforgiving as the sound has ever been. There is truly something for every different breed of fan of the style with the more extreme ends of the sound gaining a lot of ground where the very fabric of reality folds over on itself to allow for absolute horror of an ilk that can only be considered eldritch in nature. We've seen plenty of acts bring justice to that very concept, and there's always more room for those worthy! Despite having only made a proper entry into the filthy ranks of the underground just two years ago, Void Witch poises itself to be a new name to many that's already the very definition of worthy.
When we're dealing in death-doom that's as slimy as it comes and heavier than the core of a star, anything tends to be possible so long as its all paired with competency and a knack for the sound that can only be described as masterful in nature. Boiled down to its simplest form, that's precisely what Void Witch has achieved in what's the band's first full-length creation. A devastating display of immense power that knows exactly how to wield the darkness it constantly resides in, "Horripilating Presence" is the proper entrance that many within the current death-doom landscape long for in their wildest dreams. A nearly 40-minute exercise in overwhelming domination that denies no soul as it quickly swirls into an immense storm that consumes all which it comes into contact with, these six tracks are nothing to underestimate lest its raw devastation take you by complete surprise. An intelligent mix of death-doom that takes in elements of grunge and an old school sensibility, the nuance of it all is easily submerged in the body horror and grime that "Horripilating Presence" commands with terrifying power to ensure that this isn't another entry destined to become lost in the depths of the underground. Rather, Void Witch makes damn sure that this is an effort whose efforts are not to be underestimated or ignored for to simply put a single foot into this creation is to become entranced by all that Void Witch dares to summon.
Bringing together a large swathe of what the sound has always been capable of, Void Witch has already put forth a mature and eclectic blend of the genre that many take years to build towards. The previous experience of these musicians is clearly working out for them with the ferocity and raw power of "Horripilating Presence" something of a shock still despite those credentials. While many seek to make their presence known over the course of years, Void Witch achieves that same feat in just one album.
