"In this newest novella from the queer, mystical Birdverse, an apprentice assassin and an inquisitive linguist share their tales in order to make a fateful decision. Lush and lyrical, this cross-cultural tale of the beauty of language is a gift to anyone who appreciates the transformative power of storytelling."
I got an ARC of this book.
Lemberg and the Birdverse have me in a hold that I don't understand. The novellas get weirder and I can't look away. This one was two people sitting in a room telling stories to each other. Thier origin stories. As the stories go along, they bond and things change. But it also felt like it was fate that they would always do things this way, there was not a freedom. It was too neat to be freedom. It was an incredible read.
It did take me a while to really get into the story and tell the characters apart. There were times when the stories would flip from one to another without a clear change taking place, which was an odd choice but worked decently in this case. It became more clear when the stories flipped from the context and it made the stories blend even more in a way that was satisfying.
I need to get my hands on the rest of the Birdverse. This the third novella I have read and it is not enough. The way that magic is tied to deepnames was tested a bit with this book. It opened the world to other gods instead of just the Bird. It was a fascinating addition, even though at times I was a bit lost. I need so much more from this world. I need to hear of the other gods. I need to hear of the other peoples. I need so much more. I was not left disastisfied. Instead I was left with a hunger to live in the Birdverse. I need more, because I can't stop, not because the story was unfinished.
Please tell me there is more Birdverse. Please give me more.

4 out of 5 stars. I would maybe recommend this book.
