For all that heaviness can bring to the table, it has been made clear many times over that the more psychedelic reaches of the concept has found itself in quite the year with a true menagerie of names coming around to show us what can still be done given passion and more than a little talent. And there's always room for up-and-coming names to make themselves known, of course, with it only needing the right touches in the right places to get the attention of listeners. Having done quite well with their previous creation, Blue Heron has now primed itself with its forthcoming work to become the newest in line that's helped make 2024 the spectacular year for the style that it has been.
While embodying some of the more mild aspects of psychedelia, Blue Heron has already made itself known as an act that never once skimps in the department of intoxicating heaviness. A dense blend of stoner metal and rock tendencies with a real penchant for melody with more than a little bit bounce here and there to seal the deal, Blue Heron immediately made itself known as a name that we needed to keep a sharp eye on going forward. Now, with everything that they've summoned forth to bring "Everything Fades" to life, it's more than safe to say that Blue Heron has more than lived up to the promises of its predecessor. The natural evolution of what had come before it, this record is simply massive in stature, presence, and raw skill in the craft. A tremendous slow-burner of an album that knows exactly how to take its time but is never once afraid of kicking things up a notch for a brief burst of energy and contrasting intrigue, "Everything Fades" is a deeply layered creation that holds nothing back no matter how far you zoom into the record analyze its intricacies or zoom right out to view the body of work as an overwhelming whole. It hits on all the right notes needed to continuously draw its listeners further into its lurching creation that is constantly moving forward even if its pace can be that of an immense beast, but it's through taking its time that the sheer power and presence of Blue Heron comes through extremely clear.
We're always surrounded by bands looking to gain a foothold in the underground whether they seek to try something similar or strike a different chord with listeners, and Blue Heron is certainly one of them, but few manage to come close to what Blue Heron strives for here. While there's still plenty of room for improvement, "Everything Fades" is an expansive and large piece that has as much potential for the future of Blue Heron while always maintaining a level of heaviness and satisfaction that is more than enough to keep you always coming back for more.
