Fleshgod Apocalypse – Opera

It's fascinating all the things that can go into a single album with the very lives and experiences of the band members often playing huge roles in their works. That notion alone points us in the direction of millions of albums that are put out by immense emotion and trauma the likes of which an artistic mind only has one natural path to travel down sooner or later. When Fleshgod Apocalypse put out their last album five years ago, no one could have predicted the travesty that would've come upon the band with uncertainty the only constant for some time. Through sheer perseverance of the will, however, Fleshgod Apocalypse has returned to us in what cannot be considered any less than top form.

Since day one, this has been one of those bands that's always been at the top of the food chain with their particular brand of death metal always standing out from the vast majority of the crowd with the technical and symphonic injections propelling the band's name far and wide. It has only been with time that the band has become all the more proficient at their exceedingly niche craft, and it's with a near-death experience that Fleshgod Apocalypse returns to us in what can easily be argued as their most potent and powerful form yet. For all that was brought to the table in the ten tracks of "Opera", it is made clear extremely quickly that inadequacy is not amongst what was summoned. A ferocious experience that's as dense as it is incredibly layered with macabre beauty, heart-wrenching passion, and more than enough intricacies and nuances to satisfy fans for years to come, "Opera" is but yet another testament to not just the raw power of Fleshgod Apocalypse, but simple evidence that work likes this should be hailed many times over for all that they dare to be. Extremely rarely are we given instances such as this, and it's only fitting that Fleshgod Apocalypse would be the band to deliver what has to be considered close to the highest pinnacle of out-of-the-box death metal of this kind that this year would be spoiled with.

Having stared the very void in the eye and bouncing back in spectacular form, to gaze upon the entirety of "Opera" is to witness Fleshgod Apocalypse at an undeniable peak. A simply massive effort that required every bit of the band's craft to bring together in such a significant form and deliver with such exquisite finesse, Fleshgod Apocalypse is, indeed, back in top form.

"Opera" releases on August 23rd!
