My Review
This is book #12 of the Helen Grace series. Whilst it can be read as a standalone book, I would recommend reading the book in series order for better understanding of the character storylines.
It feels like ages since I've read a Helen Grace book. This one appealed to me instantly though! I love DI Grace and find her character really relatable! The book follows Grace and her team initially looking into gun crime in the city. But when a young homeless girl goes missing, Grace finds herself going against her superiors to find the girl. The storyline was fabulous and it got straight into the action right from the first page. Grace's team were back, but it did feel like they weren't all on her side this time round and the tension because of this increased the unease I felt as I read! I particularly like Charlie Brooks, but felt that even she was despairing of Grace's rule-breaking at times!
The book sets off at a fast pace and this continues through to the end. The chapters alternate between the investigation and the missing girl, Naomi's point of view. Both parts of the storyline were equally gripping and I loved how it all linked together with lots of twists and turns throughout. I did struggle a couple of books back with the storyline but thanks to the last two books I'm now firmly back into the DI Grace fan club!! Great storyline which had me hooked! Would recommend!
