New Music Friday: August 16, 2024

By b.liebman on August 16, 2024

We are halfway through August and there's been no summer slow-down as of yet! This is a great week for indie rock fans, as we have new albums from Foster the People (read my coverage of their album release show on Wednesday), Charly Bliss and Wishy. And if you need some sweet mellow folk-rock vibes, the latest from Ray LaMontagne will certainly please. We also have EPs from major artist Hozier and from newer artist Marella you should check out!

It has been a minute since I thought about the indie rock group Girls, but I was reminded of them when I heard that their former frontman Christopher Owens was dropping new music this week. Hear one of his newest in our list this week. We're also featuring the third single from legendary power pop songwriter Nick Lowe and power pop band Nada Surf, the Weird Al-assisted new track from The Linda Lindas, a new banger from FousheƩ, and continued proof that Adult Leisure are one of the best up-and-coming groups out there with their latest. Bishop Briggs has come back strong with a powerful new one, and the marvelous Marvelous 3 continue their comeback with a fantastic new track.

Japandroid's have shared the second song from their forthcoming final album, and Willie Nelson seems he'll never stop, dropping a Tom Waits cover. Alkaline Trio have surprise-dropped two new songs, and the great Chuck Ragan has taken a moment out of Hot Water Music to share a new solo jam. There's also smashing new tracks from Lea Thomas, Public Opinion, Denitia, Tauk (feat. G. Love), Yours Truly, Jordie Lane, JJ Wilde, The Low Sixes, Veronica Lewis, Riverside Drive, Joe Samba, Sons of Silver, Make Friends, Jeff Draco, Sparxsea, Samantha Franks, Fever 333, Drug Church, Rubblebucket, Shovels & Rope, Bonzie, Jean Dawson, Pony Bradshaw, Sister Hazel, Michigander, Jake Bugg, Pale Waves, Hippo Campus, Halsey, Casii Stephan and Anthony Green.

And joining the playlist for the first time this week are Certain Death, Miranda and the Beat, Homer, Mindy Gledhill, Tristan Tritt, Autumn's Grief, Izzy Mahoubi, Chrissy Costanza, Penny Bored, Hamish Hawk, Katastro, Bonzie, Leo Lauren, The Meringues, Stoke Signals, Justin Webb & the Noise, Wes Scott, The Lowdown Drifters and Veronica D'Souza.

You know the drill - follow our New Music Friday Playlist and give these tunes your streaming attention!
