Synopsis:
I've been quiet long enough.
I'm nothing like my brothers. I've devoted my life to my work, and I don't care about God or family.
I live alone, and I like it that way. Soon, I'll have the job of my dreams far away from this place, and that's all that matters.
Everything is going perfectly.
That is until Sadie Green walks into my class.
She is brilliant and funny and infuriating, and she's ruining everything I have planned for my life.
When she gets the news that she's pregnant, and the baby's father isn't going to help her, I step in.
She needs guidance, control, and discipline.
Moving her into my house is a risk. If I'm caught living with my pregnant student, I will lose my job and everything I have planned.
But the first time she asks me to punish her, I know it won't be so easy to walk away—because I love it.
Being with her would risk everything, but God help me, I can't seem to stop.
Before long, I don't recognize the good teacher I used to be.

This book follows Lucas Goode and Sadie and their interconnected stories as they help each other through years of emotional and physical encounters from people in their past.
Lucas is a college professor who has been working his entire career to get to a point where he can apply to go to London for a year to work with other English lovers and study classic literature. This year is critical as he heard from a coll that he was nominated to go for the trip, but his life is turned upside down when in his English class is Sadie.
Sadie is his brother's wife best friend and seems to push every button that he has hidden and has his hand itching to punish her from the first day of class when she arrived late and seemingly unprepared yet able to answer questions appropriately.
Sadie helps hear best friend Sage run her sex club and is working towards getting her degree in business so she can open more clubs to help keep women safe but allow them to have a place for sexual liberty.
Sadie doesn't expect her one night stand to end up with her being pregnant, but she wants to keep the baby despite feeling lost in life, and some how finds herself agreeing to live with Lucas in his spare room to save up for a place of her own and to let him guide her in life as he seems to be able to help calm her and steer her in the right direction.
Lucas doesn't really know in the beginning how this relationship will affect him as he craves order in his life, but he can't seem to get Sadie off of his mind and wants to help her despite her being his student and could put him in a stick situation if someone was to find out. Yet, he can't stop the feeling of helping Sadie and being able to provide for her.
Despite this being a temporary solution for Sadie as she knows that there is a good chance of Lucas going to London, both Sadie and Lucas have a hard time denying the physical attraction between them much less the emotion involvement of their d/s relationship.
Sadie keeps reminding herself that Lucas is eventually going to leave, and Lucas tries to keep his walls up, but they are unable to keep the other out of their heart.
This is one of my favorite books that Sara has written! The spice delivers and there is so much emotional and physical growth in Lucas throughout the progression of the story as he has years of childhood abuse at the hands of his father that he has to overcome to be able of being in a relationship with a woman who makes him strive to want more in life than work day in and day out. Then we have Sadie who has to work through her insecurities and on personal trauma from her early life.
Their connection in life and ability to help each other through life and their pain made for a heartbreaking beautiful story!
Happy reading until next time,
