"An adorkable author and an outgoing club kid as roommates only results in one thing—shenanigans! And of course, love.
Love beyond the binary, serving up low angst trans romances at Randy's Diner
Written at Randy's is a low angst M/X roommates to lovers romance between a reclusive trans male author and a life of the party bigender club kid that reads as a standalone."
I got an ARC of this book.
McIntyre does it again. He made me immediately invested in characters. She is a go to author for a reason. They really make a safe queer home. I am always excited for another release.
This is the first book in the Randy's Diner series that is going to be a trans lead shared universe series. Don't worry, I am on the list to get all but two of the books as ARCs (I beta read one and the other is an author I haven't clicked with). So stay tuned over the next two months for those reviews!
The characters were seemingly opposites, but in that fun way where it creates a pulling out of the shell dynamic vs a annoying me to death dynamic. It made sense for these two to get together. They are able to see the truth of each other, see beyond the masks. They are able to appreciate each other in a way that is healing for both of them.
The sex though. The SEX. I am living for this sex. They were kinky. They talked about things. There were condoms used. There was lube. There was one scene without a condom, which irked me. With how active they both wanted to be, there should have been a conversation about risk. So I am a little grumpy abuot that. I did like that they weren't overly intense about sex. It felt fun and just hot. It was a nice read. There were some issues with the sex scenes, which is why I took off half a star. Not going to spoil them. I talked to another reader and they didn't catch it. So can you catch the three things?
It was a really great opening to Randy's. I want to know more about Zo and the owner. Zo is a riot. I can't wait to see them appear in more books. There is no way that they are not a central character. Will the mystery of Randy ever be solved?
Overall, this was one of my favorite McIntyre books. They handle trans stuff so wonderfully. Plus the knk she writes is just always well done.

4.5 out of 5 stars. I would recommend this book.
You can buy the book here.
