Hailey Turner is big city girl who likes to spoil her cats rotten. She writes science fiction and fantasy with lots of action, epic plots, and romantic relationships that satisfy the heart. Hailey lives in sunny California when she isn't adding stamps to her passport.
A Veiled & Hallowed Eve by Hailey Turner is the seventh and final book in the Soulbound series. Patrick Collins' truth is out there for the world to know after falsely being accused of murder and his secrets being the only thing that kept him free. This freedom doesn't come without consequences as Patrick and Jono prepare for the worst. As Samhain grows nearer and the threat of Ethan Greene and the Dominion Sect becomes a reality, Patrick and Jono's New York City godpack, their allies, immortals and so many more prepare to face hell on earth.
"The end has always started with a sacrifice. Let it be yours then, and let us win this war."
Patrick Collins has been fighting so long he can't imagine his life without his soul being pulled between his debt to Persephone and his soulbond with Jono. He finds himself struggling with the guilt he feels towards everyone and everything that's happened since that fateful night so many years ago and more recent events, even though so much of his life is outside of his control. His pull towards Jono is constantly strengthening even when the worst kind of decisions have to be made. That's where I'll leave this to keep the review spoiler free.
"Maybe the Fates might have thrown them together eventually, but there was no guarantee they'd be who they were now if he'd grown up differently. And Patrick, well, he liked the man he'd become when standing by Jono's side."
Jono de Vere understands that he was a weapon given by the gods to Patrick to try and stop hell from crossing the veil and starting anew on earth. This never stopped Jono from loving Patrick and finding home and a pack with a man he never expected. With the responsibility of all the packs under them in NYC, Jono is forced to balance the pain and guilt Patrick experiences with the importance of saving the world as they know it. Jono's continued strength and belief in Patrick helps pull them through even the toughest times (again sorry about the vagueness but honestly you just need to read it).
"You came back."
Patrick's hands slid down his face to cradle his jaw, fingers shaking. "I told you I would."
This is a series that had me hooked from book one. Over seven books you not only fall in love with Patrick and Jono but the group of secondary characters such as Wade, Sage, Marek, Leon, Emma, Nadine, Spencer and even Lucien. This book takes on the challenge of finding ways to bring all the different pieces and mythologies built over all the books together. The balance of having the intense action scenes with the important character development and world building keeps you on the edge of your seat all 500 pages through. I will not share more than that because as a reader it was so great to just enjoy the story coming to an end with no spoilers.
5 stars for the epic ending that brings hell to earth and leaves Patrick and Jono to save it and each other.
