I will start the 16th Annual Book Review Challenge with an interesting book. I am so looking forward to this brand-new year of reading and reviewing Canadian books.
I will add an introduction before I post this review as to what my goals are for this year. But for now, I am going to review this great read!
This book is about a Britt who couldn't wait to be a Canadian. All of us Canadians take our status for granted. But this fella doesn't.
James Mullinger has been living and making a living as a comedian in Canada since 2014. There wasn't a dull moment in his life. He just loved his life and revelled in it.
Just when he thought he was settled, something completely unexpected happened. It was something random and it certainly was surprising to him. What was it? He married a Canadian.
This book originated because of the pandemic as it did for many writers. But as Mullinger started writing this book, he discovered that he had a lot more than just his mundane day to day affairs to share. Suddenly, he couldn't perform at live events. He was separated from his brother, Nick, in British Columbia. Like most of us, he had to live in almost solitary confinement.
But things did improve, and so did his life. This book traces how his whole family, starting with his family, came to BC and fell in love with the Okanagan Valley. It is no surprise as so many have done that very thing. But it's the way this wonderful family did that which will resonate with the reader.
The book is hilarious in so many places as Mullinger has quite a wonderful sense of humor. A great read to start off the 16th Canadian Book Review Challenge.
