Based on a series of plausible events in a regional Victorian town
So here we are in July, the last month of the racing season, and what is in store this weekend....
NOTHING.
Absolutely stuff all.
What is there to enjoy, the Winter Championships Finals at Flemington?
Well, I suppose there's also the big Group 3 Winx Guineas under lights at the Sunshine Coast, the very race that kicked off Winx's all-time record winning streak after coming from stone motherless last in 2015, and the other race is the Belmont Oaks, a race that wouldn't even crack a children's picture book, let alone the stud book…
Speaking of the stud book, the other noteworthy race at Belmont is the Aquanita Stakes, named after a fabled Cox Plate winner who couldn't even crack the Stud Book because of his dam, and subsequently failed to get quality action at stud.
You might think that's all fanciful nonsense, but it's absolutely true, and it turned out to only be the second-worst thing to happen to Aquanita, after his name was ruined by association half a century later, thanks to those cheating pricks from Aquanita Racing topping up horses on raceday.
So it's on to Crazy Craig, and what a mighty week he had last week, finding a $2.20 winner, and a $1.80 winner, for which he was roundly applauded and heckled by ingrates who couldn't appreciate getting a winner...
Admittedly, the $2.20 winner did get backed in from $2.80 in the space of 40 minutes, such is the pulling power of our resident lunatic, and it's all because of his GOOD LUCK CHARM!
P(r)ick No.1: Pacific Ruby (No.2, Barrier 2) in Race 2 at Flemington (MR2), 12:25pm AEST
1400m Quality Leilani Series Final
Trainers: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace, Jockey: Matthew Cartwright (a), 59kg
Hello hello everyone it's Craaaaazy Craig TBFB, Scratchie King of Bairnsdale, and my goodness me I am ready to go for another weekend of bullshit punting, and speaking of bullshit, I saw a story this week about the young Kiwi apprentice Wiremu Pinn, who sounds like a brand of cheap Marlborough Savignon Blanc, and that 29 horses that he rode had been disqualified because he rode with the wrong weight claim!
Claimed an extra kilo more than he should have they say!
"Well, I was riding at 58 kilos sir, but then I went for a big shit and weighed out at 57!"
How crazy is that!
Anyway, I'm fairly bored this weekend, so let's go with an early runner at Flemington, who deserves to be serenaded in song...
There is nothing I need Except the function to breath
But I'm not really fussed Doesn't matter to me...
Pacific Ruby, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby!
Do ya, do ya, do ya, do ya! Know what you're doing, doing to me! Pacific Ruby, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby!
P(r)ick No.2: Fuller (No.13, Barrier 6) E/W in Race 9 at Rosehill (SR9), 3:50pm AEST
1800m BM78 TAB Handicap
Trainer: Chris Waller, Jockey: Jason Collett, 54kg
On to Rosehill as I find a Waller runner dropping 3.5kg on the run from last weekend, and I think I may as well call this one the sitcom pick....
It's not FULLER HOUSE, it's FULLER HORSE!
What an amazing cast knackers - Bob Saget has been promoted to glory, Mary-Kate and Ashley have survived largely unscathed despite having a more ruined childhood than Michael Jackson, Lori Loughlin did time in jail for fraud...
And John Stamos is every man's fantasy, including Crazy Colin's!
Anyway, what's all this about horses?
P(r)ick No.3: Demolish (No.2, Barrier 4) in Race 8 at Belmont (PR8), 6:21pm AWST
2000m Listed 3YO Colts & Geldings Aquanita Stakes
Trainer: Neville Parnham, Jockey: Steven Parnham, 55.5kg
Another great Crazy Craig trick of picking the second favourite to beat the favourite, it worked last week with Ekaterina, and it can work this week with Demolish to wreck Upper Limits, and dear little Demolish is a perennial bridesmaid as a 3YO, with placings in the finished second in the Lex Piper, JC Roberts, Melvista and he ran a good 3rd 1st Up in the Belmont Guineas a fortnight ago...
So I ask you this, picking a non-winner to beat a favourite....
WHAT COULD GO WRONG?
And the reply you usually give is...
Everything!
Enjoy your Saturday folks, stay safe, stay negative, GAMBLE WITHIN REASON, KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD, and remember, I'm Crazy Craig, and that's why they call me Craaaaaazy Craig!
