Based on a series of plausible events in a regional Victorian town
Apparently, The Everest is now worth $20,000,000 AUD.
Fantastic, another 20 million not spent on trying to improve the drainage at Randwick, so they can run the race on a Heavy 10 and turn it into a shitshoot.
Anyway friends, winter has come but the racing never stops as the Queensland Carnival gets more and more mundane, with this week's Group 1 feature being the Queensland Oaks at Eagle Farm, and the unfortunate news is that 2022 Golden Slipper Fireburn was scratched, which means that Miss Finland's status as the last Golden Slipper winner to win an Oaks as a 3YO (The 2006 VRC Oaks) is safe for another year, and trainer Gary Portelli mentioned the reason being that the filly has a "Weird gait"....
Is that what they're calling Barrier 16 these days?
Some of the other feature races of the day include the Group 2 Moreton Cup at Eagle Farm, and other than that it looks like a pretty stock standard Winter Saturday, with the only other races of note being the Winter Cup at Rosehill, something called a Raconteur Stakes at Belmont late in the day...
And other than that, Jacques Merde.
So it's on to Crazy Craig, and what a serial WINNER the resident lunatic has become, managing to find winners across consecutive weekends, the last of which was Naval College, which was 5/1 when Crazy Craig found him on Friday, and didn't the Lunatic Legion come for him, as he came to jump at the mighty price of $4.40 favourite.
P(r)ick No.1: Military Expert (No.3, Barrier 4) in Race 6at Eagle Farm (BR6), 2:45pm AEST
1500m Listed Spear Chief Handicap
Trainer: Annabel Neasham, Jockey: James McDonald, 56kg
Hello hello everyone it's Craaaaaazy Craig, TBFB, Scratchie King of Bairnsdale, and after my win last Saturday, myself and Crazy Colin decided we were going to go out and have a nice meal and a drink to celebrate...
The only problem was, when we got to the door, we realised we can't enter any bloody pub in Bairnsdale, because that of that one time Crazy Colin broke into the Bowling Club kitchen when no dickhead was in there and made himself a hamburger!
And he got banned for it!
The crime of being HUNGRY, ladies and gentlemen.
Now, speaking of hunger, I'm still hungry for winners, so for no reason at all we're going up to Eagle Farm for another Group 1 Saturday of absolute boredom, and I've zeroed in on a horse that I think could be a Ben Roberts Smith omen bet...
MILITARY EXPERT.
Now, he resumed first up at Randwick and just never handled the boggy track, same as many horses that go to that quagmire, then he went to Gosford an ran a solid 3rd in The Coast behind Palmetto...
And now he gets 1500m on a firm deck....
As they say in the classics, WHAT COULD GO WRONG?
P(r)ick No.2: Grey River (No.4, Barrier 2) in Race 6 at Flemington (MR6), 2:45pm AEST
1400m 3YO Quality Handicap
Trainer: Jon O'Connor, Jockey: Blake Shinn, 57kg
I've heard of Green River because it was performed by Creedence Clearwater Revival, but what about Grey River...
Is it named as such because a lot of old people live near it?
In that case, the Swan River should be Grey River, but for now, we'll have to get The Boss to improve things!
Actually, that chorus would fit the horse:
That night we went down to Grey River And into Grey River we'd dive Oh, down to Grey River we did ride!
P(r)ick No.3: Featherweight in Race 9 at Belmont (PR9), 3:35pm AWST
1200m 72+ Rating Crown Perth Handicap
Trainer: Daniel Morton, Jockey: Chris Parnham, 57.5kg
You know who wasn't a featherweight?
BUTTERBEAN.
Enjoy your Saturday folks, stay safe, stay negative, GAMBLE WITHIN REASON, KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD, and remember, I'm Crazy Craig, and that's why they call me Craaaaaazy Craig!
