Part of a series, but a great stand alone book, Strictly Come Dating by Kathryn Freeman is an excellent story about a wayward free spirit who comes back home and falls in love with his older sisters' college friend who's now a doctor. They meet while the friends and their children get together on Saturdays to watch a ballroom dance competition similar to Dancing with the Stars. At first it's harmless flirting and joking around, but it grows into something much bigger than that.
The free spirited takes on a job in the community just to earn an income and to see if this might be something he could do long term. He convinces the community center to put on a ballroom dancing competition of their own and gets a community ballroom dance instructor to teach the teens at the youth center and to be the judge of the competition. It's an effort to raise money for new equipment.
Maggie is a physician who's typically extremely organized and plans everything out to the greatest detail. Seb, on the other hand, is young and carefree. Seb joins Maggie at her ballroom dance lessons as a means to get to know her better while helping her to overcome her need for extreme order. They both seem to mostly get along. Will the sexy ballroom dances bring them closer or is the extra time together going to be too much?
One day Maggie's ex-husband shows at her house wanting to suddenly spend time with their girls after over a year of no communication with them. His sudden appearance causes some self-consciousness to arise in Seb and he's unsure if Maggie's going to return to her ex. At about the same time, Maggie hears Seb's sisters talking about how he's going back to Australia causing her to believe he's leaving her, but hasn't mentioned anything yet. They're both telling themselves things but not talking to each other about it.
I especially love how books like this bring out real life issues that actually happen. If only more people read stories like this and related the situations to their own lives. It could help people grow as people, becoming better listeners and sharing their thoughts instead of keeping it in their head. Because of amazing lessons like this, I give this book 5 out of 5 tiaras.
Thank you One More Chapter, Harper Collins and NetGalley for access to this excellent book. I am so glad it was available on my NetGalley shelf!
