I'm pleased to welcome you today to my stop on the blog tour for gorgeous romantic comedy The Good Part by Sophie Cousens. Thank you to Alainna from Hodder & Stoughton for giving me the opportunity to read and review this lovely book.
About the book:
.Lucy Young is only twenty-six, but she's exhausted. She's tired of bad dates, being on the bottom rung at work, and living off Rice Krispies.
She's ready to skip to the good part.
The part where she's happily married, running the office, and never even thinking about her overdraft.
But you should be careful what you wish for . . .
About the author:
Sophie Cousens started her career in television, where she produced, among other things, The Graham Norton Show, Big Brother, Ant and Dec and Russell Howard's Good News. Working in TV taught her three things;
1 - Wearing a lanyard makes you look as though you know what you are doing.
2 -The best phrase you can contribute in meetings is "let's action that!"If you say it often enough, hopefully someone else will do your work for you.
3 - If in doubt, find someone wearing a lanyard - they'll know what to do.
Sophie currently lives in Jersey where she now writes full time. She lives with her husband Tim and has two small children who keep her occupied with important questions such as 'but did Cinderella have a toothbrush?' and 'do giraffe's know they have really long necks?' She yearns for a time when she will be able to add a miniature dachshund to the party.
My Review:
The Good Part by Sophie Cousens is a heartwarming, feel good romantic comedy that I thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end. Beautifully written, it is a lovely, often funny, story that will steal your heart from the very first page.
At 26 years old, Lucy Young is already exhausted. Stuck in a dead end job that appears to be going nowhere, fed up of having bad dates and worrying that her friends are moving on up and leaving her behind, she's had enough. Why can't she move on to the good part of her life? The part where she's happily married, running her own business and where money worries are a thing of the past?
But then, after a particularly bad night where everything has gone wrong, Lucy finds herself in a small newsagents with a mysterious old woman and a strange wishing machine. Feeling desperate, Lucy asks the machine to move her forward to the good part of her life but, as expected, nothing happens. Feeling foolish, she goes back to her damp, rented room and falls into bed.
But the next morning she wakes in a strange, beautifully decorated room to find a handsome man lying next to her. Who appears to be her husband. Unable to comprehend what is happening, Lucy rushes into the bathroom only to see her own forty something face looking back at her…
A lovely, sometimes moving, often hilarious read, The Good Part is a multilayered, heartwarming tale, with characters you can't help but fall in love with. Sophie Cousens has written a gorgeous, life affirming romantic comedy that I absolutely adored!
The Good Part is exactly the sort of book I love and is a magical, feel good read that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
A pure delight from beginning to end.
