My Name is Barbra by Barbra Streisand.
Incredible depth and candor. Talent, intellect, activism meticulously, cinematically displayed.
Notes: (Cracks knuckles and clears throat)
1 - It's a big book, and it should be. This is no ego trip. She's done stuff and has thoughts about the world worth sharing.
2 - Format. 48 hours is a lot. But, the audio is fabulous, with her intonations, off-script asides and snippets of recorded music. Famously devoted to making every performance a living, improvable thing, Streisand does not read exactly what she wrote. OTOH, the hardcopy has some great photos of Barbra with nearly every important figure of her time. And it's quicker. Bottom Line: Get both formats and alternate. My library had both.
3 - What if I'm not a fan(atic)? As an actress, singer, writer, director, producer, composer, trailblazer, and activist, Streisand's journey has much to teach anyone who wants to make a mark on the world.
