Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Today's topic is our Summer/Winter TBRs. I hate Summer. I'm very much a cosy up under a blanket and a cuppa kind of person and Summer in Australia does not lend itself to a lot of those opportunities. I think I've set myself a really good TBR though so let's jump in.
'Twas the Night After Christmas (The Hellions of Halstead Hall #6) by Sabrina Jeffries
My main reading goal for this Summer is to finally finish off this series. I've read to book four and I just haven't gotten to the last two yet. Of course, I did have to make things more difficult for myself so I'm in the process of rereading everything first. If I don't manage to read anything else on this list but I still finish all of these, I'll consider that a win.
The Five by Hallie Rubenhold
I bought this one in London in pre-covid 2020 and I've been avoiding it ever since. This is a nonfiction about the five women who were murdered by Jack the Ripper and I felt like I had to be in the right mood for it. I realise now that I've just got to pick it up otherwise I'll be waiting for the right mood forever.
Some Shall Break (Some Shall Sleep #2) by Ellie Marney
I guess there's something about Summer that puts me in a murderous mood because this is another serial killer book. I just reread the first book last week so I'm ready for this one. I seriously can't wait and depending on how much time I have, I might've started this already.
Chain of Iron (The Last Hours #2) by Cassandra Clare
This has been on so many different TBRs at this point it's embarrassing. I have started it, I've read the first 100 pages and I am not loving it. I don't know what it is, this one just feels kind of stunted and awkward so far. I'm determined to just push through and finish this and the third one ASAP.
Whose Body? (Lord Peter Wimsey #1) by Dorothy L. Sayers
Okay, now we get into the small reread section of today's TBR and more murder! After reading Square Haunting in November which is, in part, about Sayers, I'm finally getting back to this series. I wanted to reread the first two because as I've mentioned many times before, my memory is not fantastic. I'm really forward to it though.
Only When It's Us (Bergman Brothers #1) by Chloe Liese
I meant to pick up this one in November but I just ran out of time again. I have big plans of rereading this series ahead of the last book's release in April but obviously, I need to make time for this one first. I'm really looking forward to all of these with their spot-on disability representation and amazing banter.
Out On A Limb by Hannah Bonam-Young
Speaking of a contemporary romance with disability representation...I'm actually already 40% into this one after I started it last week but I've been too busy to finish it. It's absolutely fantastic so far and I'm looking forward to finishing it off.
The Unadoptables by Hana Tooke
For something a little different, I thought I'd add this in here. I'm buddy-reading this with one of my dearest friends, Helen. We've planned a whole bunch of buddy reads of middle-grade fantasy because we both had a tough year and we deserve some cute reads. We're picking this up on Boxing Day and I know it'll be a lot fun to read and chat about this with Helen.
Slayers: A Buffyverse Story by Christopher Golden and Amber Benson
I usually only pick one audiobook (if at all) but December is going to consist of a lot of knitting Christmas gifts and packing up our house for a big move, so two audiobooks seemed reasonable. I'm most excited about this one at the moment because it's voiced by a lot of the actors from the show—I'm especially excited to hear James Marsters return as Spike. This is just over 8 hours on 1x speed so I think it'll be a reasonably quick read and I'm expecting it to be a lot of fun.
Mrs McGinty's Dead (Hercule Poirot #32) by Agatha Christie
I'd expected my library hold of this to come in two weeks ago but since it hasn't, I'm going to slip this onto the TBR as well. This'll probably only take me two or three days to listen to but I'll be grateful for a quick read this month. Hopefully, my hold will come in before too long. And of course, we had to end the TBR with more murder.
And that's everything. I'm not going to lie, I do love the sort of stabby/murdery theme alongside some more lighthearted romance and middle-grade. I think this is going to be a fantastic TBR.
