Crazy Craig’s Belated Picks of the Day: 13th January

So we have what some would consider to be the biggest weekend of the summer leg of the season, the Magic Millions raceday at the Gold Coast, and it looked pretty touch and go over New Years with all that rain in South East Queensland, but thankfully the synthetic surface will not be required....
At this stage.
Other than that, the future apartment complex Rosehill hosts the January Cup, Flemington hosts the Group 3 Standish Handicap, and there's nothing else other than that, because such is the weather in Perth (41 degrees) that the Ascot races were abandoned several days ago...
But somehow Cricket Australia decided this weekend was the right time to play a Perth Scorchers home game at 1:15pm.
It is the only game this Big Bash season that will start before 3pm local time.
And you wonder why people in WA aren't warming up to Cricket Australia anytime soon.
So it's on to Crazy Craig, fresh off a week off that represents one of his better weekends in recent months, except for that Saturday before New Years' when he picked a winner.
I suppose there is a saying about broken clocks...
Weather-Related Omen Bet: Storm Boy (No.1, Barrier 10) in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast (BR8), 3:35pm AEST (4:35)
1200m Restricted Listed 2YO Set Weights
Trainers: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, Jockey: Adam Hyeronimus, 57kg
Storm Boy, a horse so good they wrote a book about him after only two starts:
Hello hello everybody it's Craaaaazy Craig TBFB, Scratchie King of Bairnsdale, and I suppose this is a week in which I have to pretend I understand one iota about the finer details of Queensland racing, because let's be honest, the only things I know about Queensland racing are that Fine Cotton used to race there....
And, the Hendra virus got its name because it was discovered at Vic Rail's stables in Hendra... Unfortunately, the only thing Vic got as a reward for his unfortunate discovery was a place in the history books as the first homo sapien to die thanks to the virus.
The poor bastard deserved better, especially for all the joy he gave us with Vo Rogue.
Anyway, staying on the subject of cruelty to mankind, wouldn't it be cruelly appropriate that after South East Queensland was buried under 400 feet of water over the New Year, that a horse named Storm Boy would win the Magic Millions.
You know what that screams to me, knackers?
OMEN.
BET.
P(r)ick No.2: Boston Rocks (No.8, Barrier 4) in Race 9 at Rosehill (SR9), 5:35pm AEDT
1200m F&M Benchmark 78 Handicap
Trainer: Nathan Doyle, Jockey: Tom Sherry, 54.5kg
Boston Rocks...
Don't know much about the horse, but I do know Boston rocked in 1976, and they STILL BLOODY DO!
You'd think a horse named Boston Rocks would live up to his name and won his maiden start, like how Boston absolutely destroyed the charts with their debut album in 1976....
But nope, he finished 8th in a 9-horse field, and has proceeded to win 3 of his next 4 with a runner-up in between.
Hm, did stuff all to begin with, then exploded to great success in no time at all....
In hindsight, they should've named him 'Nirvana'.
Enjoy your Saturday folks, stay safe, stay negative, GAMBLE WITHIN REASON, KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD, and remember, I'm Crazy Craig, and that's why they call me Craaaaaazy Craig!
