| janeimber Jan 12 | Leave the World Behind by Rumaan Alam. Terrifying. Horror planted in your head. You decide what grows. Note: I haven't seen the movie, but I've read about it. I urge you to read the book first, or instead. The terrifying heft of this story is psychological. The cinematic pyrotechnics of the movie are frosting on an already frosted cake. Note: You can't help but know a little of what is coming with all the movie promotion, which makes Alam's masterful foreshadowing during the ordinary before all the more delicious. Note to book clubs: Have a box mix cake on hand. Final note: There's a conspiracy among writers of book jacket blurbs to call every novel "comic." They are lying. #Bookstodon | | | | You can also reply to this email to leave a comment. | | | | |
