Weekly Seasonal Watches: Fall 2023 Anime Season Week 13

Happy New Years! We are in middle period between seasons where longer shows have a week off before their next cours and some shows just finished up. At least the last three episodes of Zom100 appeared to fill in some voids. For now, let's enjoy some almost final thoughts on the season that just ended.

Table of Contents (Click to see thoughts on a show/episode from last week)

Migi and Dali
Dead Mount Death Play
JJK Season 2
Soaring Sky! Precure
Frieren
Daigo
Apothecary Diaries
Zom100

Migi and Dali Episode 13 (Finale)

What a good and comfy sort of episode for Christmas day. The episode did start pretty dour from Eiji being through into Juvenile Hall and Dali hiding away from the world as Migi's double because of the burn on his face. Though, the moment that their adoptive family noticed there is two of them and wanted Dali to come out and be his own person was great. Same with the return of Eiji and so many characters that we've gotten attached to. The ending note of Dali going to college and Migi staying behind for his art career, both with smiles, was touching. Perfect episode for Christmas.

Dead Mount Death Play Part 2 Episode 12 (Season Finale)

While this episode is a conclusion to this arc and a set up for a future season I hope we get. Yeah, especially after plots, backgrounds, and characters popping out of the wood work to make the connection together. Corpse God being first chastised and supported by his friends during the fight with Civil and then using his connections to bring the conflict to an end with Civil and his group was great. Same with the police characters pushing away the fire bugs from destroying Shibuya due to the supernatural stuff happening. It really is a great episode for Corpse God to finally become his own person and to be brave. Brave enough to at least have Civil relax his claim of returning to the older world for now. Yeah, this episode is a good time.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 23 (Season Finale)

Yeah, I think I am done with JJK. This entire season has been way too much action with the barest plot threads and character motivations pushing everything forward. This entire finale was cool in concept because I like how the world would change after an entire district of a city is just wiped out. Though the action itself with Getou cornered somewhat and us not knowing how it all ends after a talk is cut off is kind of the last straw for me. Same with how Itadori is being hunted by Yuta from Zero because of Inumaki's arm being cut off which we never see. Yeah, this entire arc was such a fiasco.

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Episode 17

Zom 100: Bucklet List of the Dead

Episode 10

This was the classic sort of turn around we all thought it would be for a finale. The first half where Akira finally gets dreadlocks and connects to some people that made their way to the small town and this finally connecting with his dad. Shizuka became a doctor, Kencho made a little girl who hasn't smiled for a long time actually smile, and Beatrice is doing her weaboo thing. Then the one angry college mate that Kencho and Akira know decides to destroy the town by over running it with zombies and its out to our crew to save the day. Good starting episode to end this show because Akira facing a mirror of himself makes complete sense.

Episode 11

This was the episode for Beatrice, Kencho, and Shizuka to fight against their evil counterparts. I have to say that I'm kind of disappointed with how these events went because it's generally the stuff you would expect to see. Except Shizuka who was saved from her creepy stalker. Kencho dived naked into some manure, and Beatrice fought against someone with a chainsaw sword so that part was kind of cool. Just wish those people weren't just three different kinds of selfish assholes that never tried to understand people's different point of views. I realize they had one episode or part of an episode but it's still lame.

Episode 12

The finale of this show is generally pretty solid and had some cleverness. As in, Akira being dressed up as a zombie with makeup and everything to save his dad from Higurashi. Also, Akira was about to get Higurashi to return and do something good in his last moments unlike the other three. Plus, the saving of the village and Akira really connecting with his parents was heart warming. Same with the group of four sight seeing on their way to Hokaido. All generally had a good time with this show even if it isn't a favorite. It's generally ok.
