"While Enlil spends the summer giving Lucy magic lessons, and Fain plans the party of the century at his castle, Aris finds himself drawn back into Aaron and Jessica's orbit when the pair go to a fortune teller seeking answers about the past."
I got an ARC of this book.
Another book in the bird man series! (I am aware that is not the title, but when I shout at work that there is a new book in the bird man series, my book coworkers will rush to find the next Crunden. They know.)
I adore these characters so much. This book was not my favorite in the series so far. It felt like an in-between book. It ties up some of the loose ends and solidifies the world. So I adored it, it was just a little less exciting than the others. That is the only complaint I have. I had to reach for it.
There is more character development of the vampires and the cursed woman. There is a reappearance of the unfortunate human from book one. There was even a cameo by the intriguing fae royalty. There were so many characters here. It felt like it was setting something up. What is coming next? I can't wait to find out. It feels like it will be big. There are so many players in the game now. So many powerful people that have been waiting on the edges to really shine. I am excited!
The exploration of the magic system was interesting. It is more open and varied than I usually like. It feels uncontrolled and with few rules. In this case it works, as the witches being focused on are wild witches. Coven witches have more structure and rules it seems. It is a good contrast. I am glad the focus is not in fact just magic and magical adventures. If it was solely a fantasy novel about witches I would be put off by the magic system.
I can't wait to see what is next. There is so much more room to explore. So many characters that are already here, but there are always more. What other creature or magic will Crunden slip in next?

4 out of 5 stars. I would recommend this book.
You can buy the book here.
