Aspiring novelists,
Think you could finish writing your first chapter by July 11th?
You've been talking about writing a novel for some time now ... and every (eventually great) author has to start somewhere, right?
So let's do it!
They say that if you want to achieve your biggest dream, you've got to start by setting a date.
And by "they," I mean motivational speaker and author Greg S. Reid:
A dream written down with a date becomes a goal. A goal broken down into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by action makes your dreams come true.
—Greg S. Reid
What he's saying is there are 3 parts to achieving a dream:
1. Setting a date. Ever notice how when you say you'll do something on such-and-such-a-day (instead of "someday"), it actually happens? It's no different for writing.
2. Making a plan. Not being sure what to do leads to doing nothing. It's just the way we are. Instead, sit down and think about what the very first step is—something you can do right now, today.
3. Taking action. Then ... do it! Putting your plan into motion is the most important part of the whole thing, because nothing good ever happens by resting on your laurels.
