During the annual Australian Football Hall of Fame inductions, there's always an In Memoriam section, no different to the Academy Awards, and this year one of the names that popped up was Mike 'Portholes' Porter, who played in Hawthorn's 1971 Premiership team...
However, as was pointed out by John Kennedy Jnr (Whose father John Snr was the coach of the team) on The Front Bar, Michael Porter is still alive and living in Sydney at the age of 79...
Adding to the hilarity, the captain of that '71 Hawks team in David Parkin WAS IN THE ROOM FOR THE IN MEMORIAM, and Porter didn't even know about it until his old Hawks teammate John Fisher called him up, which led to Porter calling Parkin to let him know he was alive, and eventually the AFL apologised for his premature death.
It makes me think of a well-known Monty Python scene...
Mike Porter: "I'm not dead, I'm getting better!"
AFL Hall of Fame: "No you're not, you'll be stone dead in a moment!"
It also reminds me of Hulk Hogan wishing Bam Margera from Jackass was still alive in 2018... only for Bam to reply to the Hulkster and let him know he was well and truly alive for the last 7 years, and that he was thinking of Ryan Dunne.
