With the win against West Coast in Perth to make it 5 wins in a row, the Hawks are the first team in AFL history to sit 13th on the ladder after any round and hold a winning record (8 wins, 7 defeats).
Yes, the league is now so even that a literal Bottom 6 team in an 18-team competition has a winning record.
I would also point out that the team in 14th has a better percentage than the team in 4th
There's two ways of looking at this:
Hawthorn are the lowest-ranked 8-7 team in history…
Or...
Hawthorn are the greatest 13th-placed team in history.
I would also note, this is also the first time Hawthorn have had a winning record after 15 games since 2018.
It really has been that long.
Another funny fact - After Round 12, Hawthorn were in 12th.
They have won every game since... and are now 13th.
