I recently discovered this gripping political thriller series by Rob Shumaker, which has become some of the most exciting writing I have come across lately. President Andrew Schumacher has completed an electoral landslide and is ready to properly govern, but still has some loose ends in the terrorist realm to handle. As his intelligence community gathers intel, a mole within the CIA is caught and put on trial, added a degree of imbalance to the country. When drastic measures are taken during a presidential trip abroad, everyone takes notice and awaits the results. Another great piece by Rob Shumaker in this addictive series.
A powerful outcome at the ballot box has President Andrew Schumacher ready to govern and put forth some of his key energy policies. However, there are still some lurking in the shadows, hoping to bring jihad to America and topple the leader once and for all. To do this will also ensure the Great Satan crumbles, after many close calls.
Two countries in particular are ready to work together in secret to target America and neutralise the new energy plan that is making headline news around the world.
They will have to strike quickly and quietly, with help from within the CIA. One man seems eager to help and is soon turned, as he spills classified intel.
All the while, the CIA is working to capture and extract intel from a known terrorist. That this man was on allied soil and the country's leadership was not made aware seems an afterthought, especially with what is procured. As long as it can be done quietly, no one will be the wiser.
As the Russians and Pakistanis work with their mole, they concoct a plan to trap President Schumacher and force his hand during a trip abroad. A compromised head of state works with the Russians and Pakistanis, which could mean international disaster. With heightened drama and a great deal of political intrigue, Shumaker spins a tale that keeps the reader hooked from the opening pages.
I love a great political thriller and Rob Shumaker has served up some strong ones in this series. These books balance great writing by offering strong narrative foundations and build from there. Shumaker presents realistic political situations and hooks the reader before all comes together. Shumaker gets his point across and keeps the thrills at the pinnacle of the storytelling. Characters are developed effectively, allowing the reader to connect with them as they make their way through the piece. Well-paced throughout the series, I can only hope things continue. While there remains a strong focus on terrorism, I hope Shumaker turns this internally and find some legal or constitutional themes to build upon soon, portraying the political side to events.
The political landscape comes to life with this book, as strong plot points evolve. This keeps the reader attentive and keen to see where things are headed. Political advancement is present, with international events taking centre stage for the time being. Shumaker surprises the reader with much that is taking place, though events seem to remedy themselves swiftly. I am hoping for a more drawn out story with internal focus for the coming novels, sure to stir up some exciting aspects of the law, constitution, and politicking. Shumaker keeps the reader keen to delve deeper, which is a great thing and helps pass the time with ease. I am keen to continue the series binge.
Kudos Mr. Shumaker, for a story that kept me hooked from start to finish!
